1978 Datsun 280Z for sale! Motorcar Classics is proud to offer this 1978 Datsun 280Z, presented in shimmering Champagne Gold with a complementary beige interior. It is an all-original, two-owner classic with only 22,000 miles. The 280Z, part of Datsun's revered Z series, was celebrated for its blend of performance and refinement, powered by an original 2.8L L28 inline-six engine paired with a smooth 5-speed manual transmissionoffering spirited driving and reliability that set new standards in the 1970s sports car market.

Originally purchased at Stephen Datsun, Inc. in Bristol, CT, this example has preserved its classic specifications: independent suspension, rear-wheel drive, power disc brakes, and original wheels with hubcaps, all contributing to the car's agile handling and timeless styling. Historically, the 280Z marked the peak of S30 Z-car development, introducing fuel injection for improved efficiency and emissions while retaining the analog charm and direct connection to the road that enthusiasts love.

The second, and current, owner acquired the car in June 2018 at just 12,324 miles and ensured its continued superb conditionnever driving it in rain or winter, always storing it inside, and maintaining its rust-free status thanks to early Ziebart treatment. Mechanical excellence was upheld with specialist servicing at Datsun Spirit in Manassas, VA, where key components were refreshed: shifter bushings, ball joints, tie rod end, knuckle arm O-ring, sway bar bushings, T/C rod bushings, brake hoses, clutch hose and fluid, with minor paint imperfections touched-up for preservation. Additional upgrades include new OEM clutch master and slave cylinders, spark plug cables, windshield wipers, new tires, and fresh rubber seals throughout doors and hatchback.

The 280Z?s historical significance lies in its role as a leading Japanese sports car, influencing subsequent generations and cementing its status among collectors. With its unmodified specifications, careful stewardship, and extremely low mileage, this example stands out as a testament to the enduring appeal and engineering excellence of the original Z-car lineage.
