1970 PONTIAC GTO CONVERTIBLE for sale. Motorcar Classics is now offering this fully-documented 1970 Pontiac GTO Convertible featured in Cardinal Red with matching Red interior and Black convertible top. The car is PHS documented and presents today as it was built. This GTO has the base 400 CI 350 HP V8 with 4-Speed manual transmission. It is reported that only 887 GTO convertibles were built with this powertrain combination in 1970. The Red interior is rare as well, with most red cars having Black interiors. The current owner has had the car for about ten years and researched its history as best he could. It was purchased 6/8/70 from Gidden Pontiac-Buick in Bedford, IN. He added a Hood Tach, as was optional in 1970, and ceramic-coated headers. He also replaced the tires, clutch and starter, and rebuilt the carburetor. The oil has been changed twice yearly and the car has otherwise been reliable and trouble-free. It has been kept in a heated garage, and driven only 2,540 miles on sunny days while in his car. Features include Power Top, Power Steering & Brakes, and Safe-T-Trac rear. We note that according to his research, the engine block may have been replaced at some point in the past, as the stamping on the block is correct with respect to date code, but the code stamped on the block is YS, which would be specified for a 400CI/350HP block for an automatic transmission car. Or, the block could have been substituted on the assembly line. The documents, regrettably, do not list numbers for the individual components. This lovely GTO remains in excellent condition and drives great. We believe that it represents an excellent value for the GTO enthusiast with the benefit of reliable provenance.
