1961 Morgan Plus 4 Four-Seater Tourer. Motorcar Classics is proud to present this brilliantly original 1961 Morgan Plus 4 Four-Seater Tourer featured in Ivory with dark red leather interior. The 1961 Plus 4 is powered by Triumphs 2.1L 4-cylinder engine rated at 100 HP, with a 4-speed manual gearbox. This car is the four seat model and was ordered with factory options of wire wheels, disc brakes, tonneau cover and heater. Look closely at the loving patina on this Morgan and consider its most fascinating story. Everything in this story is supported by a comprehensive history file which includes family photos and receipts going back to September 11, 1961, the date the car was purchased from Fergus Imported Cars in Manhattan, the importer at that time. The car comes to us from the family of its long-term owner, Arthur Lange, a true enthusiast who we lost a few years ago. The Morgan was a 25th birthday gift from Arthurs father, Arthur Sr., an aircraft engineer at Republic Aviation, here on Long Island. As an engineer, Arthur Sr. appreciated the unique qualities of the Morgan, and he specifically sought a tourer to carry his family of four. Arthur Jr. was only 13 at the time his father bought the Morgan, but developed an immediate bond with the car. His father taught him to drive it at 15, and he drove the Morgan all through college. Arthur met his future wife, Ruth, in college and the Morgan became part of their family when Arthurs dad gifted him the car for his 25th birthday. Arthur was an active member of numerous sports car clubs and the car was well known at events all over the Northeast. The Morgan was Arthurs primary transportation all-rear round and he could often be seen in Winter with a sheepskin-lined leather flying helmet to assist his handsome beard in keeping his head and face warm. Look closely at our studio photos and see how the car wears its patina proudly. But dont be fooled by its well-worn appearance. The history file includes receipts for two engine overhauls and countless other work over the years to maintain the car in peak operating condition. It starts on the button every time and drives as good as new. Request a link to our Dropbox folder with samples of the receipts, books, family photos and original documents that are all included, along with assorted spares. This Morgan represents an unusual opportunity to become the next keeper of this car and its 60-year story, and for you to cherish it as much as Arthur while you write the next chapter in its history.
